Wang Kepin: an artist in love with burned wood!
Born in 1949, this Chinese artist quickly began self-taught sculpture.
He developed his art by first creating numerous political works then moving towards much more sensual works. He particularly likes to sculpt women’s bodies, couples…
For him, wood is the best way to highlight the curves of these women. All his work consists of accompanying the natural shapes of the tree and using the specificity of wood as a “living material”.
Thus, he does not seek to erase the natural accidents of the wood such as knots and veins but rather to play with them.
